About me
I’ve been a freelance writer since 1996, mainly contributing to surf mags around the world. More recent years have seen me working at a number of surfing events hosting the live webcast and getting behind the microphone for full beach commentary. It’s fun.
I worked overseas and traveled for close on four years before studying an undergraduate degree at Rhodes University between 2002 and 2004, attending courses in English and History while majoring in Journalism and Philosophy. I then took two years off from 2005-2006 to focus on my surf writing and get some more traveling done.
I returned to Rhodes to study for Honours in Philosophy in 2007, with courses split between the Philosophy and Politics departments. I spent 2008 and 2009 working on my Masters in Philosophy, and in early 2010 moved back to Cape Town to work on my writing full time.
Then I won the Surf Swindler competition, and spent 2011 traveling around the world and blogging about it for theBOMBsurf.com. It’s been the most incredible year of my life.
I love music, reading, thinking, and engaging with intelligent people. I love that my job has afforded me the opportunity to travel to every continent on the planet and surf hundreds of different waves in so many countries. What’s more, I love that all this has been made possible by words.
As of October 2011 I’m back in London, and while the surf trip is not over (there’s plenty of good waves in Europe for those willing to make a bit of a mission and brave the cold) I will be looking to new opportunities in writing, editing, online media and digital marketing from here on out.
